The Snapchat Murders / Voice Of The Devil / Down The Hill (Abby and Libby 2017 Delphi Indiana)

This case is very infuriating because two wholesome girls were taken before their prime. The girls were able to film the perpetrator and record his voice. The case remains unsolved.

Lengthy Preamble

Due to the high volume of disrespectful, careless comments and deplorable actions, I would like to add a disclaimer. Whatever you say and do, please do so with care and thoughtfulness. Aim to avoid lurid sensationalism and make your goal actually help. The best help you can give is to share the flyers and send real tips to the police. Lastly, share the story and keep the girls alive in the hearts of the public.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Sharing side-by-side photos of suspects, altering original photos, and naming random people hinders the investigation. A person of interest who fits the sketch description and has a connection to Delphi should be turned in via tip line and not the public. Failing to adhere slows the investigation, hurts the family, and could cause legal actions by the innocent people being defamed and dragged into a murder investigation. The family are very involved in this case, the people are real and this isn't a story meant for your entertainment so out of common human decency please do not write fan fiction, makeup horribly theories, go on dark tourism, or pester the family. Your actions always have consequences. Please, see my conclusion for tips on how to turn in an effective tip.

Abby's mother works at a resort outside of Delphi and people will ask her blunt questions about the case not even realizing she is the mother of Abby. Libby's sister takes the brunt of a lot of inappropriate questions and interests. The girl's grandfather says the family discusses the case daily so this is something very raw to them even four years later. Please, do not accuse or demand information from anyone involved in the case. Nobody has the right to info from them. Lastly, do not badger the family for personal details such as where they are living now. I've seen this several times throughout the research for the case and I don't know if people realize it or not but it's just damn creepy. Leave them alone and if they feel like sharing they will.

Four years is a long time so please keep that in mind when reading family statements and memories. Memories fade and traumatic events make them even more blurry. I will include any inconsistent statements or details for data's sake but I do not think it detracts from the story.

Thank you, and as always feel free to use my collective writeup in any way that you wish. Credit is always nice but I do not need it. My goals are to try and help. I am not the best at grammar or spelling. I am aware of the mistakes and I am comfortable leaving them but I understand if people feel compelled to correct them. It will not hurt my feelings in the least if you must point it out.

 The Story (Short version)

February 13th, 2017 (Monday), the weather was unseasonably warm and according to historical weather websites, it was about 40 degrees with a low around 20 degrees. Abigal William and Liberty German (Abby and Libby), were two teens that were off from school. No snow days had been used that year so it was just a fun day off by the school to use up the time. They had just enjoyed a pizza sleepover together and had convinced their family to let them go hiking in a normal spot that was a common and well-known teen hangout called Monon High Bridge trails. The trails were east of their hometown of Delphi, Indiana where they lived in a very small tight-knit town. The kind of place where everyone left their doors unlocked. It was about 1:45 pm when they started to hike and enjoyed taking nature photos and talking with each other about things. Libby posted a photo of Abby to Snapchat on the bridge part of the trail around 2:07 pm. A haunting image that marks the last moment the girls were seen alive. After this, the girls vanished and neither girl arrives at the pickup place when they were supposed to. When the family decided something was wrong the police, the town, and other officials began to search for them. Nobody suspected foul play and a large force of people searched for the girls. Most assumed they had gotten hurt hiking, walked home, or had lost track of time. The official search force stopped around midnight but volunteers stayed and chose to look for them through the night. The next morning the search began again in full force only to halt around noon with the despairing news that the girls had been found but not alive. The girl's cause of death has never been released publicly but the police have stated that they were murdered.

The police hailed the girls as heroes because they had recorded their attacker with their phone and shown great bravery and presence of mind. The police released some footage from Liberty's phone showing the perpetrator and his voice making this a case like none other.

Historic Trails & Monson High Bridge Background

Delphi Historic Trails in Carroll County contained the Monson High Bridge Trail (Goes over Deer Creek) that their bodies had been found near.

The Wabash and Erie Canal Association, a nonprofit group in Delphi, had been working on the trail system since the ''80s. They had cleared over 10 miles of trails and kept them during that time.

Monon High Bridge Trail was the longest system section at 1.5 miles with a deep history.

"The Monon Railroad was built through Carroll County from 1879 to 1881 and the first train went over the High Bridge in January of 1881. This route went from Chicago to Indianapolis and was called the Airline route. The High Bridge, over Deer Creek, is the second-highest in the state at 63 feet and it is 853 feet long." - actus-reus.com/delphi-evidence

There are historical photos you can look up of the bridge-building built and an antique train running across it. The use of the railroad stopped in 1987  with the tracks coming up in 1992. It was still owned by CSX Transportation at the time of the murder. Indiana Landmarks now owns the land.

The Trail HEAD They had been dropped off by Libby's sister Kelsi German at County Road 300 North, west of the Hoosier Heartland Highway. Trailhead is roughly 3 quarters of a mile to the bridge. Hoosier Heartland Highway is a four-lane highway built to replace the Indiana 25 from Lafayette to Logansport.

The road cut the Monon High Bridge Trail in two. McCain said the state offered a solution that took the trail on a roundabout way to get from one side of the Hoosier Heartland to the other. McCain said the Indiana Department of Transportation told Delphi officials that if they could find a bridge to span the new highway, the state would consider it.

“I think they figured we’d never find a bridge like that,” McCain said. “Oh, but we did.” -Journal &Courier article Bangert: Spotlight On Delphi trail after girls killed.

My favorite candid POV of walking across the bridge. I believe this was filmed before the murders as well.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=edK8DJVW890

There was also a restored 2015, iron bridge called the Freedom Bridge that was installed and it connects the trail from City Park to the High bridge.

The trails were advertised as family safe and an interesting place to be. The only issue I could find was that people wanted more renovations and safety features even before the murders. After the murders, there were calls to repair the bridge and make the area safer cameras as well as finding the cars that had parked at trail entrances after dark for some time even before the incident. I also found accounts from locals saying that the area while beautiful gives a person a feeling like there is nobody else around.

Delphi Town Background

Delphi a city in Carroll County Indiana USA. Named after the ancient city of Delphi, Greece is was platted in 1828.  The town is home to several historical sites. In 2010 there were only 2,893 people 32% being children. The closest big cities are Lafayette roughly 30 miles, Indianapolis about 70 miles, Fort Wayne about 100 miles, and Kokomo about 30 miles. Previously, before the murder, Delphi used to come up in Google searches as Delphi Automotive or Delphi in Carroll County, Indiana. According to neighborhoodscout.com Delphi's crime index is 32 meaning it's 32% safer than other USA cities. In general, it seems property crimes are the highest in the area above others.

This case is the first homicide since the 1990s and the first child homicide in Carroll County since at least 1986.

Another notable event is the Fora, IN the fire. November 21, 2016, there was a fire (arson) that took the lives of four children. https://www.wthr.com/article/news/local/indiana/flora-fatal-fire-intentional-investigators-ask-for-help-from-citizens/531-e70de991-7c63-495b-9757-8279418224b4

Story With More Details

Rewinding a bit to the day before their disappearance the day is February 12th, 2017 (Sunday). The girls went to the local park and played catch supervised by Anna Williams (Abby's mother). The school was using up the built-in snow days making it a long weekend. Libby wanted Abby to stay over that night and Anna agreed to drop them off at Libby's house. The plan for the next evening was that Anna would pick Abby up after dinner at Libby's around 8:00 pm.  The girls went and they had a pizza sleepover where they hung out with Libby's older sister Kelsi German and some of her friends. They watched a scary movie, ate pizza and garlic knots, and enjoyed the time together. Later the girls were painting in their room to end the night.

The next day was February 13th (Monday) and Anna said she spoke with Abby throughout her work shifts. Carrie Timmons (Libby's Mother) went to work in the morning around 9 am or 10 am and was in Kentucky at the time. Carrie said she received a snap chat message from Libby around 9 am or so and she was just relaxing in bed. Every day the pair would message each other somehow even though they did not live together. The girls reportedly didn't wake until close to 10 am according to Becky Patty (Libby's Grandmother) who said they also wanted to eat pancakes. So, Derrick (Libby's father) made them banana pancakes. After pancakes, the girls declared they were bored! The girls did a bit of filing work for their Grandma outside of her office space, a bit of painting, and then they moved on to another idea.

Kelsi woke up late that morning as well and she had plans to go to her boyfriend's house and go to work. The plan was to help her boyfriend (Chase) clean out his truck he was selling, then he'd go to work while she relaxed at his house hanging out either with her boyfriend's father or sister until it was time for her to work. The work shift times only had a small gap between each other.

Kelsi was getting ready for the day when Libby burst into the room with Abby behind her and asked if she wanted to go to the high bridge. At first, Kelsi said no but feels bad and later tells them if she could find a ride back and their Grandma said yes back she could take them to the high bridge.

So, the girls ask their Grandma for permission to walk the trails. The trails were a common hangout spot for teenagers, as well as being the local backdrop for photos like graduations and weddings. It is known locally as just the high bridge. The girls were familiar with the area and had previously been there before as had most of the children in the town. Teenagers used the historical bridge as a rite of passage by walking across it. There is a bench on the trails memorializing the graduating class of 1962 proving its longstanding history as a local spot. Long before this incident, the area was so beloved that Anna was reported to have had a photo of the bridge as her FB cover. Then later when they cleared out the lockers one of the top photos inside was of the high bridge. It really was a place both of the girls had enjoyed and loved. However, it seems at least Anna didn't know the girls had actually been on the tall bridge before. “No mother in her right mind would say, ‘Oh, yeah. That’s a great idea,'” she joked, saying if she knew her daughter was walking on the high bridge, she would have had a "come-to-Jesus talk" with her." -'Like it happened yesterday': Family reflects on Delphi murders at four-year anniversary

Kelsi said she wasn't surprised at all that her sister Libby crossed the bridge but she was surprised that Abby had done so.

Becky may have thought one of the girl's friends was out there at the bridge when they asked to go because the girls had mentioned their friend being there. Becky does give her permission as long as the girls found rides for there and back. The girls didn't exactly have their ride back as organized as expected but as Kelsi explains on Gray Hughes Investigates Live Derrick their father would never say no to Libby and since he was going to go through Delphi anyway it wouldn't have been a problem. (Derrick allegedly was going to Frankfort to take photos for Becky's Appraisal business) On their way out the door, Becky tries to get Libby to take a coat but Libby just smiled and said "it's Ok grandma" and left.

Kelsi notices that neither of them brought sweatshirts and she ran back inside to grab a sweater for Abby and insists Libby take the sweatshirt (Could have been a hoodie or jacket) in the backseat that was always there for her. On the way to the trailhead, Kelsi said Libby sat upfront and Abby in the back. They cranked "Heathens" by "21 Pilots" and drove.

When she dropped them off at the trailhead (The drop-off point may have also been at the entrance to W. 300 )  the girls exchanged I love you. Kelsi mentions that she regrets not being observant of the details on that day and now she's hyper-observant because she has to be. Kelsi said she remembered seeing a dark SUV, its rear windshield covered in decals parked near the entrance can't remember anyone around it or anything else. In the Gary Hughes interview, Kelsi mentions that there were a couple of people on trails but they were far away.  The official drop-off time is about 1:45 pm. Kelsi then goes to her boyfriend's and helps with his truck. Chase went to work 30 mins before Kelsi leaving her with his sister (or maybe father) before she had work. Kelsi would have had to go back into town so leaving his house would have been unnecessary.

There is one conflicting news source who reports differently on what was supposed to be the pick-up person. One says Mike Patty (Libby's Step-Grandfather) and another says Derrick German (Libby's Father). In most personal accounts from the family, it was Derrick German is the pickup person.

Derrick agreed to pick up the girls but supposedly only gave them a two-hour window of hiking time. 3:00 pm and 3:15 pm are the two possible times that the girls were supposed to have been picked up. 2:07 pm was Libby's last Snapchat which leaves only a short window of time from their vanishing until somebody was actively looking for them. 3:11 pm Derrick text's or calls Libby to let her know he is on the way but there was no response. 3:14 pm Derrick arrives at the pickup place of the trailhead. Derrick does not take long to decide something is wrong and calls Becky Patty, and both could not connect with Libby via phone call. Tara (Libby's Aunt) also joins in trying to call the cellphone. A bit before 4:00 pm Becky decides it time to go look for the girls and she asks her husband Mike Patty to go help. Mike finishes up at work and goes out to the trail as well but he was 30 mins out in Laffeyte and not worried at first. Becky Patty says on her way there she drives two different ways the girls could have chosen to take if they walked home if she ran into them there.

4:00 pm (Estimated) The family starts calling around to see if the girls walked home or met up with friends. 4:15 pm another family member (This is likely Cody and Becky Patty) arrives at the trailhead to help look. They call Kelsi around this time as well and it was just a few minutes before she left for work. Kelsi calls into work and goes to the trails to help look. " When we got to the bridge me and (Cody) crossed it and looked around" - Kelsi German Live 02-13-2021 Gray Hughes Investigates Kelsi says they didn't see anyone on either side of the bridge at the time. Cody and Kelsi both yell for Libby as they search. Kelsi and Cody were the only ones to cross the bridge that night the other family members were scared to cross. They walked the trail in the opposite direction of the crime scene thinking that the girls may have walked to Abby's house and perhaps got lost walking there or back. Derrick had tried walking down the trails a little way sometime during 3:15 pm and 4:15 pm. Derrick encounters a man in a cotton plaid shirt who said he had seen two people on the bridge earlier when asked if he had seen the girls. Becky Patty said when she got to the trailhead there were several cars there and had to park across the road in a ditch. According to Kelsi, she said she had friends at the trails prior to the girls going missing and when they arrived for searching there were other people at the trails. Kelsi is worried nearly right away knowing that Libby not answering or ignoring her phone was very unlikely.

Roughly around 5:00 PM, Mike had arrived and walked the trails a bit. Mike is the first one to call the police and report the girls and as he talks on the phone he starts walking to Freedom Bridge from the trails. Along the way, he runs into two police officers already searching. According to Mike had called the Sherriff directly and not 911 and eventually he meets his family at the police station. Some of the family go to the police station around this time to file a missing person report. Some family is there and others keep searching with eventually a majority of the family ending up at the police station at some point. Kelsi stays at the police station for most of the night. The family that searched that night were probably Cody, Kelsi, Tara, Amanda, Derrick and Mike, and Becky. (There could be more or less) Becky calls  AT&T around 5:30 pm to see if they can track Libby's phone. The company declines to help and there is no official statement on why.

Anna was at work around 5:30 pm when the girls were officially reported missing and she got a call from Becky around this time. "I didn’t overly panic at first, because I thought they were at the park and had lost track of time.” -The Sun "Snapchat Murder Mystery. Anna spends hours at the Carroll County Sheriff's Office in hopes of good news. Carrie Timmons got a call from Kelsi around that time as well. Diane Erskin Abby's grandmother was already having a rough day when she hears the news of the girls being missing. Diane had lost a family friend to cancer that day whom the girls called Aunt Janie.

The night grows longer and the family calls friends, knocks on houses, posts on social media, and keeps up their search. The family scours the girls on Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook for any clues on their whereabouts. Kelsi shows everyone the Snapchat of Abby on the bridge and so they know that they needed to check the bridge area that night.

Libby's family starts to realize something is extremely wrong because Libby is afraid of the dark and probably not out by choice now. The community starts to rally as well and many people arrive with flashlights lighting up the area to help search. It's possible someone had a night drone would that night but this isn't confirmed. The community word spreads so quickly because of the use of the telephone tree system and they search ally's streets and the trails. The Delphi Fire Department ran by volunteers is one of the first to respond to help look but they didn't know where to start so they just checked everywhere; focused on the creek, roadsides, streets, and friend's houses. They said they even checked the radius of the cellphone towers in about 2 miles all around (Basically all of Delphi) they did also check the bridge area. The mayor (one of the youngest of the time) heard about the search and drove over from two towns away to help.

The family starts to think the girls got lost in the woods or injured on their hike. Anna worries because she knows they are not good with directions, they had not eaten in a while and the temperatures are going lower. Anna and Kelsi being convinced the girls are just lost both have jackets ready along with snacks for when the girls are found. Anna becomes upset when the search party checks the creek water with flashlights and tells them to stop looking there because they are looking for two girls, not bodies. Mike also worries for the girls and starts wondering if they were just missing or abducted.

Erica Gibbson a close friend of Abby and Libby had face-timed her friends the night before. Also, joining the search she speaks of her possibly creepy encounter during the down the hill podcast. Saying she was almost out there at the bridge in the dark alone because she offered to check the bridge again one last time for Kelsi. Thankfully, she didn't because the firefighters that had been searching the trails had gone home and the only other person with her was another friend and teen.

The official search stops that night with the estimated time around 12:00 and 2:00 am. The reason cited was because of the darkness and the cold. Family and community do not stop their search however with many staying out the night. They walked the trails, used ATVs and maybe bikes. Kelsi and Becky decide to go home and try and sleep while another family such as Mike kept going in the night. Simone needed to be home for the girls in case they arrived there or if there were phone calls with information. They didn't sleep much maybe an hour or so. The night search stopped sometime around 4 am and a few people did not stop searching at all.

February 14th, 2017 (Valentines Day, Tuesday, with Sunrise around 7:41 am) The search continues officially in the morning the start time is estimated around 7 - 9 am and it now intensifies. A search headquarters is made using the Delphi Fire Department building and Pastor Todd Ladd of Delphi Methodist church where Becky and Mike attend is asked there to talk with people as they came in. Pastor Todd had seen Libby only a few days prior.  K-9 units, dive teams, volunteers from all over the place even outside of the city, helicopters, and police take up the search. Volunteers are split into groups and sent to different locations. Word is that the search officially started so late because of a dense fog in the morning. According to the historical weather report, it was cloudy from 1:54 am until around 8:00 am or so. The dew point was around 29.83 and the high was 50 degrees with a low 33 degrees. There was some wind as well. The search was said to have been somber and very little talking was happening. Most groups were sent away from the officials searching the trails. Kelsi however is assigned to a group to cross the high bridge. Some of the people in this group might include Kelsi, Derrick, Grandfather of Kelsi, a sister of Kelsi, a female from the school, and also another male searcher. The group is afraid to do that and some break off to search in a part of the trail nearby. Kelso and only 4-5 people cross the bridge, they look under the bridge and in the area.

Estimated time around 12:00 pm the crime scene and the bodies of the girls are found. The find starts with just a single shoe found by a volunteer who shouted to Kelsi. The shoe was found somewhere near the water and by the bridge while Kelsi stood on a small hill near or on the trail. They ask her what type of shoes the girls had or they asked the color and Kelsi is able to confirm that the shoe belongs to one of the girls. Now the searcher thinks he sees movement across the creek so he opens his cell phone camera and zooms in for a better look. Through the camera, he sees two does and so he starts walking in that direction to inspect further. Along the way, he might have found footprints on but this is not confirmed information. Where the does stood lay the bodies of the girls in the deep grass and between a grouping of trees.

Kelsi had stood uphill a bit when the searchers found her sister and tried to rush forward to them. However, she was held back by another volunteer who had worked at the school and known Kelsi. Kelsi's grandpa Brad was there too and since she knew he had heart problems she tended to him. They took his four-wheeler back to his house following the private drive and past Abby's house.

A word about the bodies being found starts spreading but the news is unofficial. Kelsi does not know if all of her family knows about the news yet at this point but she calls her father to meet them at her grandpa Brad's house in case his heart gave him trouble. The family gathers and goes to city hall where they parked outback. The family is officially informed of the situation there and had to be snuck out the back to avoid the media. Kelsi said when they all got home the community had prepared piles of food and delivered it to their homes. The community had also done this for the LE as well.

Publicly, the LE does not confirm the identities of the girls.

Local teens begin to gather outside the firehouse after word spread about the find. A vigil is held at Delphi United Methodist Church and the community prayers for the families of the girls, along with responders, teachers, and students. The service has a reading from the book of Matthew and several other churches that were involved in crossing denominational lines.

Crime Scene Details

If you would like to see crime scene photos some of the best that can be found are by J. Kyle Keener, a photographer who contains no gruesome images and is posted to their social media accounts.

The crime scene place has never been clearly defined by LE. They were estimated to be 0.5 miles from the bridge end and across Deer Creek and about 50 feet from the shore. It's assumed they went off trail and down the hill to the north. Then over a private driveway and further north to the Deer Creek which at the time would have been shallow enough of ankle-deep to knee-deep. It's on the other side upstream of this where the girls are found in a grouping of trees with deep grass. This spot is due south of the cemetery on County Road 300 North. The space is described as private and very quiet and close to the water against the flow of the creek. The property owner (Ron Logan, who was cleared of involvement) mentions it's only possible to get to the place between the cemetery and creek by foot because the terrain is rough and steep. The place is a half-mile east of the Freedom Bridge.

“Unless someone absolutely somehow studied that [trail] in great depth, they would not know specifically where certain things were,” Sheriff Leazenby said. - Daily Doge Article 'Epitome Of Evil': Delphi Double Murder Still A Mystery Three Years Later

This is what causes investigators to think that the killer may have been a local that lived there currently, grew up there, or worked there. Perhaps they were in the surrounding areas.

It is possible the bridge and the trail were used as a trap and it could have been premeditated. Once you cross the bridge it obscures visually creating privacy with woodlands on all sides. You can only go forward from the bridge end and that encroaches on private property.

It is entirely possible but assumed that the killer walked past them as they were crossing the bridge and double-backed. Which may have caused the girls to become alert and film him. alternatively, they could have spotted him following them which caused them to guard and film him. Either way, Libby films him almost secretive as her phone is kept low and perhaps in her pocket. There is a misconception that she snapped photos and then recorded but it seems like there is only one recording the photos are pulled from the film by LE.

The initial contact specifically happened right at the end of the bridge, on the southeast end, where it stops being a bridge and becomes a trail again. -actus-reus.com This would be the footage that the police had released. It is mere moments before the man says "Guys.....down the hill."

The high bridge has 6 platforms that stick out in alternating patterns of left and right. With the video clip and still picture, it is possible to deduce the killer is approaching from the northwestern side moving southeast towards them. This of course is all info the LE has not discussed as they have released no information.

An anonymous female resident of Delphi said the spot where the girls had contact is so creepy that when she hiked there she brought a gun with her. In her account of the trails, she notes that the trail turns as you start from the trailhead and you can see the bridge approaching you. The closer you get the larger you realize the bridge is. The bridge lives up to its name of being very high up with the added dangers of it rotting with crossing posts missing.

“I’ve walked across the high bridge myself. It’s 65-70 feet off the river deck. It hasn’t had a train on it since 1929."

"The ties are starting to rot. It sways back and forth and it’s not something you can just jump on and walk straight across if you’ve never done it before. I decided I was going to take the riverbank going back, I didn’t. That wasn’t the first time he’s been on that high bridge, my opinion, again that’s my opinion. I experienced it and I kept a piece of the high bridge and I’ll carry it with me until we find out who this is.", Said Doug Cater Indiana State Police Superintendent. - wrtv.com ISP: We're 'one tip away from solving the Delphi Murders.

There may have been physical evidence on the scene but the public does not know if the items recovered are part of the crime scene or if they are part of the public due to the public trail use.

Possible but not confirmed items of interest are a girl's undergarment or garments that were near or under the bridge. A cigarette butt that was in the water. The photographer Keener has quotes saying he could see girls' clothes in the creek east of the bridge but I am unable to find the source to this quote so take that with a grain of salt. Keener may have referenced the shoe or undergarment. There are reports of possible footprints leading to or from the crime scene. Lastly, is at least one shoe which was found on the other side of the creek. This section of info is hard to verify as there was a scandal involving police scanners and false transcripts. In general, the police scanner is considered authentic and the transcripts are treated as false. I will leave all this info in here for your discernment but please do not take these findings for the items found at the crime scene as facts.

"Those poor girls were just out having fun. And to think Libby lost a shoe which means she  had to walk without it on rocks and sticks; its pitiful." - A Sister’s Walk for Justice: The Delphi Murders [EXCLUSIVE] Feb. 24, 2021

It is implied Libby's cellphone possibly an iPhone 5 or 6  was recovered from the crime scene and not missing. Though there was speculation that her phone was recovered via an app or cloud service. "Sgt. Holeman tells us investigators have more audio from Libby's phone, which was found with the girls at the crime scene." -Fox59, Aug. 14, 2017. In other articles, there is mention that the police said the girls were talking about girl stuff and laughing and they mention the man. It's possible they don't know exactly what the girls are talking about in the extended audio. Kelsi German in the live podcast with Gray Hughs mentions she's never heard this audio and Gray encourages her to listen to help decide what the girls are saying. Kelsi said she'll listen when she's ready. The girls started recording the encounter on the bridge. They tried to ping Libby's phone but the signal just bounced around between towers which is normal phone activity based on how those towers work and the family texts were mark delivered but unread according to accounts by family. Leazenby in a youtube interview states the attack was not recorded. The phone also according to the family rang until the evening when it eventually stopped ringing via phone calls.

February 24th, 2017 DNA evidence was collected from the crime scene and sent to a lab with expedited results. The results were not released publicly and the type of DNA collection not released. However, we don't know what importance this DNA is. Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby confirms the collection of DNA from the crime scene and alludes to evidence of fingerprints as well. According to the family, most people in connection to the case have had their DNA taken. Most anyone brought in for interviews had their DNA taken and eventually, people came and donated their DNA just to clear their names after false tips.

There are no official details about the girl's bodies or how they died beside the police saying they had been killed via homicide. The reason for this is because the police are keeping a lot of details close to their vests in hopes of being able to get a solid conviction. It has the added benefits of avoiding false confessions and creating copy-cats. This technique has garnered them a lot of criticism.

“Speaking on behalf of state police, we don’t ever release information about ongoing investigations. In this case, we gave out audio and photo evidence from [German’s] video to help locate [the perpetrator]. We do that so when we get key evidence, only the killer or killers know the cause of death. We don’t release it to the media because then everyone and their brother would know, and it’s common to get false confessions from mentally disturbed people. So we’re trying to keep the details close to our vests.” -ISP First Sgt. Jerry Holeman tells A&E Real Crime 2019 (Estimated)

This lack of information however has caused confusion among the community and spurred the imaginations of many making a ripple effect of false information, conspiracies, and speculations. It has also angered many who desperately want the killer caught.

LE is vague about any information pertaining to witnesses. No information about them has been released publicly. They allude to the idea that was multiple witnesses on the trials that may have seen the perpetrator. The family talks about Derrick having seen a man known online as the Flannel shirt guy or FSG for short. According to Derrick, he asks this man if he had seen the girls. The reply was that FSG saw a couple or two people on the bridge. A female via Facebook is also known to have mentioned being there on the trails around 2:00 PM. According to her, she saw nothing at all.

“I even walked all the way across the bridge and back. I only (saw) a guy when I first got there and another couple once I got on the bridge,” Cheyenne Mekisha Engles wrote. “I didn’t see the girls at all. I also didn’t take the trail that leads to the right. Only took the trail that leads to the bridge.”-heavy.com article Abigail Williams &Liberty German: 5 fast facts.

I am unable to determine if these are two separate women with similar quotes or if this was only one woman with one story. Please, keep this in mind.

The police want info on a driver who had a parked vehicle at an abandoned building nearby and they want to talk with anyone parked that the trailhead that day.

February 15th, 2017 Autopsies had occurred on Wednesday morning in Terre Haut, and toxicology was done as well. Authorities said the autopsies were taking longer than expected. A pathologist began in the morning and was still working around noon. The results were not released except for the fact it did identify the girls. This cause more debates among the public making assumptions about why the autopsies took so long and why they didn't release identity until after the autopsies.

Time and time again authorities allude to the crime scene as disturbing. Unofficially, Robert Ives during an interview with "Down The Hill" Podcast reveals some information about the case. Ives had previously worked on the case as Carroll County, Indiana's Chief Prosecutor and he is now District Attorney.  Ives reveals that there had been two or three specific unique signatures at the crime. (Not literal signatures necessarily) The killer did two or three things that were unnecessary for the crime. The same investigator says the girls had been placed side by side. Robert Ives believes this was the work of a singular killer with distinct mental illness. The signatures are not defined as pre or post postmortem.

Also, It's a small note but the girls have different death dates according to their obituaries. Libby passed away on the 13th and Abby on the 14th. This could have been a family choice based on when they were lost and found and may not have any deeper meaning. Abby's gravestone does say she died on February 13th, 2017.

Libby was last seen wearing a tie-dyed shirt with fringe on the bottom, gray sweat pants and black lettering, and black Nike shoes. Abby was last seen wearing a gray zip-up sweatshirt with a burgundy t-shirt underneath and blue jeans.

Viewings for both girls were held on February 18th, 2017 a Saturday from 4-8 p.m  (extended until 10:30 because of the large number of people) at the Delphi High School gymnasium. Earlier that day a biker rally (Probably hosted by  Guardians Of the Children) was held for the girls with proceeds going to the family.

Abigail Williams and Liberty German were laid to rest on February 19th, 2017. It was separate and private funeral services with hundreds lining the funeral route to pay their respects.

Libby's private family service was held at Delphi United Methodist Church, Sunday, February 19th, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Todd Ladd officiating. Burial followed in I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens, Pittsburg, Indiana. They collected donations for Libby's memory for the Liberty German Scholarship Fund at the Industrial Federal Credit Union c/o Mike and Cody Patty. Davidson Funeral Home, Delphi will be assisting with the services.

Abby's ceremony was a private family service.

February 19th, 2017 the community and others amassed over 1,000 at the Delphi Community Schools releasing lanterns with messages to pay respects.

Mike Patty who was Libby's grandfather in a News 6 report ( “Delphi Daughters: The Untold Story of Abby and Libby”) “I don’t know what happened out there that day, whether there was a chance or an opportunity for one to break off or split, or make a break for it or whatever but you know, I look at it as two young soldiers who covered each other’s backs, two best friends, I wouldn’t leave my best friend’s side. Neither did they.”

Investigation

February 13th, 2017 (Monday) The girls were reported missing from Delphi Police Department and Carroll County Sheriff's Office around 5:30 pm. Police, deputies, Department Of Natural Resources, and firefighters of 100 -200 strong searched the trails. They also had arial searches and sniffer dogs either late that night or early morning. The dogs had to be brought in from Illinois. They attempted phone pinging which is now a debated topic but unfortunately, there isn't much to learn.  Mike Patty bringing in all of Libby's electronics such as Ipads, Ipods, or computers for LE. According to Kelsi German Abby was not allowed to have a phone but sometimes used Libby's Ipad. Mike Patty worries that they may have been abducted or hurt. The base of operation had been out of the firehouse.  Nearly the entire town had gone out in groups with flashlights and searched the area and hometown.

February 14th, 2017 (Valentine's Day and Tuesday) In the morning the search continues it was supposed to have started earlier in the day around 7:00 AM but a dense fog impedes the start and it was roughly around 10:00 AM when it began with officials. ISP gets involved after Delphi LE request a helicopter. Crews of 10-12 were being sent out to cover 20-25 square miles and the log indicates at least 100's were there that day helping. It was rumored to be about 300 on the logs and freelancers did not check-in. The volunteers weren't just friends they started coming from the local cities as well. The search dogs were out this day as well and volunteers were asked to steer clear while the dogs worked, also since this was the area the girls went missing they didn't want to contaminate any evidence. The fields were muddy, and search parties were having trouble contacting landowners for access so they mostly walked road edges and peeked into barns and buildings along the way. Looking for any evidence of the girls. Nobody spoke as they searched. Allegedly the officers look into issuing an Amber Alert but the situation did not meet the criteria. The news reports that the family and police did not think any foul play was involved and did not believe the girls were in immediate danger. A LE mobile command center had been made around the trails so that they could coordinate the search better.  About 12:15 PM word begins to unofficially spread that two bodies had been found near the creek. The community weeps together outside of the fire department.

Later that day around 1:50 pm LE represented by State Police Sgt. Kim Riley, Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leanzenby and Delphi Police Chief Steve Mullins (these three men have become the faces of LE during this case) announced two bodies had been found but did not officially identify the girls. They announced that they were investigating a crime scene. The said the ISP and FBI Crime Scene Investigation Unit from Indianapolis were announced as working on this scene. They did not stop the search but it was scaled back at this time. They were asked why they suspected foul play and the answer was "Just the way the bodies were found, that's all I can say at this point in time" - press conference wRTV. They did not formally declare a homicide. The LE begins tweeting every hour for a while with simple tweets such as "Nothing new" for around four hours. Ominously, when asked if people should be afraid the answer at the conference was "I think people in the community are smart enough in our community to draw their own conclusions about what they should feel and shouldn't feel," Delphi Police Chief Steve Mullins said. "Our people are very smart. We have a very good community and they are very strong. And they are able to draw their own conclusions about this whole situation very successfully.” -wrtv press conference

According to Mike Patty, he spends up to two weeks going out to the trails and scanning the area looking for anything at all that could help catch the killer. The police receive criticism for not issuing an Amber Alert and recanted with the case didn't fit the criteria nor would it have done any good. After 48 hours of searching the crime scene and area, space was cleared by Thursday.  Here is the link to the press conference.

February 15th, 2017 (Wednesday) LE has another press conference around 2:33 pm. They officially identify the bodies as Liberty German and Abigail Williams. They also release a still photo of a man walking on the high bridge. (The LE did not at this time say where this photo came from) This photo has been worked on by some very big-name companies but it has not been able to be enhanced. They announce that they would like to talk with him. They also say they want to speak with anyone parked at High Bridge Trail Head on February 13th between 1 pm and 5 pm. Anyone that took pictures that day or was just on the trails to come forward to talk immediately. They also officially announce this is a homicide investigation and they don't have suspects in custody, but don't believe there is a threat to the community. “There is someone out there that did this crime and we’re going to track them down,” Sheriff Tobe Leazenby said. “Folks should continue with business as usual but be more mindful and watch your surroundings a little closer.” -fox59.com

In the same article Sgt. Kim Riley has a quote many have assumed had a deeper meaning. “I think people need to be cautious and careful,” Riley said. “Parents should make sure they know where their children are and what their children are doing, and if nothing else, know what’s going on in their lives. That’s the most important thing I can say at this point in time.”

Sgt. Kim Riley advises parents to keep an eye on their children whilst the Carroll County Sheriff's Department said there was no immediate danger.

There was an FBI team still working on the crime scene on this day. Also, in a Twitter feed, there were photos of the Lafette and Tippe dive teams launching a boat near the crime scene.

In the following day's law, enforcement from across the state and FBI traveled to Delphi to aid with investigations and sort through tips, they also had a tip line set up and a command center. After having people start showing up at the LE building in person to tell tips they started working on setting up a tip hotline. The Department of Homeland security brought in a special communications dish to help with the tip-line.

The police scrutinize the cell phone, Twitter, and Facebook of Abby and Libby.

The FBI Evidence Recover Teamwork on a profile of the killer.

"Everyone is a suspect," said Sgt. Riley.

The crime scene tape stayed up for over 2 weeks as the police work on the case.  Around this time in the investigation, they had been searching properties near the crime scenes and going through barns and outbuildings. More details on these locations later in this write-up. They are only briefly mentioned in the news and so briefly mentioned here. Also around this time, a mobile headquarters is set up as part of the multi-agency murder investigation. It was around the municipal building on East Main Street.

February 16th, 2017 (Thursday) This is the estimated time that the satellite link was set up to go directly with the FBI headquarters in DC and the Department of Homeland Security.  Also, by this time investigators said they had cleared several people who had been on the trails around the time the girls were. Sgt. Riley stated that everyone is still suspect but now ranked from low to high. Police stop posting at access points to the trail and it seems most of the evidence gathering at the scene is done.

February 17th, 2017 Retired IMPD homicide captain Robert Snow offers his thoughts on the case publicly. Snow suggests starting with looking for a motive because that can lead back to a suspect. Then focus on everybody that knew the girls. Registered sex offenders in the area Then ends with truly random killings are very unusual.

February 19-22nd, 2017 LE has a conference and releases audio that came from Libby's phone. The words, "... Down the hill" can be heard with a low slightly gravel tone but this small section sounds upbeat. Some hear the audio as an older man and others hear him as younger. This voice is described by the police as the "voice of the devil." - Doug Cater. This is the audio released on this day in a loop.

https://www.in.gov/isp/files/Delphi_male_voice_loop.mp3

The man from the released photo and audio is now named as the primary and only suspect whereas before this date they had only wanted to 'talk' with the man that was photographed on the tails. No indication on why they changed him to primary suspect. As soon as they named him a suspect the tips jumped to 6-12 every hour. "People thinking this is a suspect and not just somebody we want to talk to. If somebody saw something that, at first, wasn't important, maybe they will give us a call and let him know," Indiana State Police Sgt. Kim Riley said. -13WTHR Tips pour in after suspect identified in Delphi double homicide. The LE also starts to suggest to the public that perhaps this man is near a local in the areas surrounding Delphi because they thought the small Delphi down would have identified him already. Very interesting the LE asks the public for some specific details. "We're trying to get people that were driving down the Hoosier Heartland, that was on the interstate, that was in Logansport that might have seen somebody walking, hitchhiking-- if they saw a duffle bag laying somewhere, anything. We're just reaching out for people that saw anything within that distance," Riley said.-13WTHR Tips pour in after suspect identified in Delphi double homicide.

During this news conference WLFI-18 wrong with an article with a quote that said "The recording was longer than what has been released. Police won't release anymore to protect the integrity of the investigation, but they've seen the video and likely won't be able to stop thinking about it." However, other information to support this statement can't be found. Sheriff Tobe Leazenby was asked if the attack was recorded and his answer was a flat no.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=76&v=XxFYgGMEzDE&feature=youtu.be

There is also another quote that alludes there might be a fuller recording by the insideedition.com article "Police Release Sketch Of Suspect 5 Months After Murder of Indiana Teens" " A source familiar with the investigation described the full recording as "the stuff of nightmares."

The full conference is here on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpLOzFStDBg

DNA evidence was collected from the crime scene and sent to a lab with expediated results around February 24th, 2017 and this makes it the third piece of possible of tangible evidence from the crime scene. Photos, Audio, and a DNA sample. They did not say what they collected the DNA from.

In a February, 28th 2017 news article, it said it was widely reported that two search warrants were executed. One west of Delphi and another in Peru but neither made any suspects and no arrests. "I don't have an exact number, but it’s more than the two you know about,” he said. “We actually made arrests as we’re investigating this case,” said Indiana State Police Sgt. Tony Slocum.- Police give a vague glimpse into the Delphi investigation Journal&Courier Article however, those arrests weren't related to the killings. “If we come across a suspect and/or witness — or anybody — during this investigation, and we find out they’re wanted on a warrant for some other activity that has nothing to do with the double homicide, we can’t turn a blind eye to that. So we’ve made arrests,” he said. They also reached out to the community they may not watch the news or social media and set up a checkpoint to pass out over 1,000 paper flyers

March 1st, 2017 former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat Mcafee and team owner Jim Irsay donated $97,000 to reward fund. The reward got up to $230,000 for information leading to the arrest of the prosecution of the murderer.

August 14th, 2017 (Estimated) An article by 12wthr mentioned that more audio from Libby's phone had been played for the victim's families and in it, the girls mention a man behind them. Police say the girls mostly talk about "stuff girls talk about" in the recording, but they also mention the man. Also on www.abbyandlibby.org under case details: "The photo and voice recording was taken from German’s cell phone. Authorities have indicated that more evidence relating to the suspect was found on the phone, but it will not be released so as not to “compromise any future trial” So once again alluding to more content but not outlining exactly what that is.

ABC RTV6 did a report called; “Delphi, Indiana: FBI seeks tips on behavioral changes to help catch Delphi killer,”. The FBI asks the public to think about that day and ask themselves detailed questions in hopes someone will remember a small detail about a person missing an appointment or any odd behaviors on that day. They also suggested looking into odd behaviors after the 13th in 2017. Things like new sleep patterns, abusing of drugs or alcohol, anxiety or irritability, someone who followed the case to the extreme, ongoing conversations about where they were on Feb. 13, someone who went and visited the murder location, and anyone who may have taken photographs of the area of the trail and bridge.

Around March 3rd, 2017 it was reported that FBI agents had been helping at this point. The FBI bureau's Behavioural Analysis was currently building a profile of the killer.

April 11th, 2017 At this point in time investigators received 24,000 tips.

5 months later (July 17th, 2017) The Indiana State released a composite sketch of the man on the bridge named as only a suspect it also includes a description. The white man between 5'6 and 5'10 weighing around 180lb-220 pounds and with reddish-brown hair and unknown eye color. They remind people the hat is probably not accurate so focus only on the facial features. It was allegedly built off the still from Libby's phone and eyewitness accounts of seeing a person like that in the area. (Note this is contradictory information and I know it. Leaving it in but point it out. In previous articles it had been stated nobody saw anything and others say there were some witnesses around.)

The police are adamant to not allow this case to be a cold case. Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter says, “There’s a person out there that knows who did it. Not a hunch. They know who that person is,” said Carter. “They know that voice and they know those clothes. They know that posture. They know that stance and they know who murdered those two little girls in that quiet place.” (Quote from Katie Cox's article Delphi Investigation: Why state police say Libby & Abby's case isn't cold)

Dec 13th, 2017 The girl's family and lead investigator appear on Dr. Phil in the episode "The Indiana Train Track Murders."

February 11-12th, 2018 (Estimated) Georgia Bureau Of investigations and other FBI field offices continue to lend their expertise. There are at least one or two tips being turned in a day at this point and multiple agencies are still working even though some return to home departments. Sheriff Leazenby is adamant it's "not a cold case because a true cold case has nothing left to follow". Leazenby said a few of the tips about the apartment wound up because they thought they were getting close to getting the killer but refused to expand and what those particular tips were. "I fall back into the fact that when we get that one piece of evidence - and we're going to get it - we're only going to get one shot at a conviction."

February 13th, 2018 On the one-year anniversary the LE release another press conference that runs about 20 mins. It was headed by ISP Superintendent Douglas Carter, Introduced by Sgt. Kim Riley, and supported by Detective Deputy Sherrif Kevin Hammond, Sherrif Tobe Leazenby, First Sgt. Jerry Holeman, and FBI Special Agent Mike Peezly.*Unable to find a written version of Mike's name so unclear on how it's spelled. There was no new information on the case being released. However, they offered comfort to the public and urge them to try and keep this case front and center in the news. LE says they brief Gov. Holcomb regularly on the case and say that cost is of no matter. ISP Superintendent Douglas Carter again points out how obviously personal this case is to him, he says because the girls are everybody's daughter and that evil shouldn't be a standard. He invites questions but says he won't be answering anything to do with the investigative process, tactics associated with the investigations, and what only the killer would know that we know. Douglas says that at one year they are only one piece of the puzzle away from finding out the killer's identity. later he expands saying they have the whole puzzle done they are just waiting on that one piece. Douglas also mentions that the FBI used the O'Ryan System*also unsure of how this is spelled or if it's slang if you know what this is please let me know.  as well as other experts. They say because of the high profile case they have inquires for discussion from all over due to the complexities of the time of when they found the girls. Douglas closes by thanking the local media and national media and opening the floor for questions. This is the time where they say they are not interested in Danial Nations. They say everyone is a suspect until an arrest is made. They implore people to turn in tips because once they are out of tips they will start over, it won't be a cold case Douglas answers a question stating that he feels confident that the people they've talked to already at this point in time; there was no involvement.

You can look up the conference on youtube. I highly encourage people to watch the conferences themselves.  Here is a link to a current working video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThmnNQk4o2E

This news article link shows pictures of what the conference looked like behind the scenes. https://www.jconline.com/picture-gallery/news/2018/02/13/delphi-double-homicide-update-on-abby-and-libby-investigation/110386128/

May 2018 (Estimated)

The family goes to CrimCon attending moderated panels.

John Douglas (Former FBI Special Agent AKA Mindhunter) starts lending his thoughts on the case publicly around this time. He suggests the killer may have interacted with children or might know them. He also suggests the killer had a criminal history and points out the killer could be attending news conferences. Douglas also said the police should have been looking to see who might have left the area.

October 4th, 2018 James Renner interviews Chief Leazenby about the case and asks him if he had heard the full audio and he says yes. Renner asks if the attack was on audio and he says no. Full video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxFYgGMEzDE&feature=emb_logo

February 12th, 2019 At least five psychics have offered to help work with LE. They are averaging about twelve tips daily now.

April 19th-22nd 2019  "New Direction"

A prominent conference in the case is released. It's a benchmark in the investigation because of the new information that is released and passionate speech spoken by Sgt. Carter. The conference in full link here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFMuJQ1FyQ4&feature=youtu.be

They release a longer version of the man on the bridge footage as well as a longer version of the audio. They hope the longer versions can help someone identify him by voice or gait even though the gain could be altered since he was on a bridge.

This is the new audio: https://www.in.gov/isp/files/Delphi_Audio_Edited_2019x3.wav

A second new sketch revealed at the conference. Much to everyone's surprise it is a face of a younger man than the original sketch. The face is clean-shaven and has slightly different features. The family who had been sharing flyers fervently on the original sketch is shocked. Sgt. Carter asks the public to give the family two weeks of personal time to process the news before having to give interviews.

Following the conference, there was mass confusion about the two sketches even among LE themselves. At first, the media and some LE treat the sketches as two separate people but it seems it was meant to be an update on the original sketch. There are a few conflicting LE statements in the press but official government sources now indicate this is an update to the original BG sketch.

It was ISP Master Trooper Taylor Bryant who did the sketch released in April and according to him, he had put it together around February 17th, 2017, based on a witness statement. (There is a least one conflicting statements saying ISP Master Trooper Taylor Bryant didn't do this sketch but based on other articles it seems this was a misquote but I thought I would mention it for sake of data) Bryant used a "facial identification reference sheet" to render the sketch and even he reminds people that sketches are not an exact likeness to a person. They think the second sketch is more accurate however the suspect could be a mix between the two sketches. Sketches are not photographs.

Since this sketch comes from 2017 the LE reminds people that it's possible the suspect looks different now. LE suggests that the suspect could work in Delphi or in the Area and could be a local and hiding in plain sight.

In this same press conference, they also ask the public for information on the driver of a vehicle that was parked at the old abandoned CPS/DCS Welfare building (since burnt down) in Delphi on the east side of Country Road 300 North, next to the Hoosier Heartland Highway between noon and 5 pm. the day the girls vanished.  They did give any specifics about what type of vehicle and many people made assumptions about the vehicle

Lastly, the conference was unusual in that they must have known it would be a bombshell in the case because they recorded the names of the individuals that attended and that perhaps even either photographed or filmed the attendees. The layout of the press conference it is here https://twitter.com/AnnaCarrera317/status/1120359926902218752?s=20

The conference's overall feeling was that of pressure on the suspect. The LE is passionate and speaks directly to the killer and Sgt. Carter randomly mentions he had watched the moved "The Shack"; a movie about a religious murderer.

June 8th, 2019 (Estimated) Paul Holes retired detective who helped solve the Golden State Killer case lends his thoughts on the Delphi case. Paul encourages people to trust the police strategy.

Allegedly around 2019 the police may have thought there was a connection to another cold case with the double murder of cousins Lyric Cook, 10, and Elizabeth Collins, 8 in Iowa. This is not official information.

February 25, 2020 (Estimated) The family appears on Dr. Oz

April, 29th, 2020 The Carroll County Comet interviews Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby. Around this point in time about 40,000 tips have been turned in. Leazenby reports that roughly 9,000 were in 2019 and 3,000 in 2020. In this interview, Leazenby mentions there is DNA and alludes to fingerprints but does not say who's DNA or fingerprints and mentions that things like that are not like tv and aren't always simple. Leazenby, works to dispel myths and rumors in this interview and says the girls had been killed on the property they had been found on. Leazenby, also goes on to state that it has not been ruled out that there may have been one or more killers. Leazenby who received criticism for calling off the search the first night admits there could have been mistakes early in the case that caused investigators to overlook some early leads. Things he said are being looked into now. Leazenby believes the perpetrator will be a well-known community member. Leazenby also addresses the two sketches and says they were supplied by two different people near the scene that day but both images are of the POI.  You can read the full article yourself here https://www.carrollcountycomet.com/articles/lots-of-tips-no-arrest-in-2017-double-homicide/

August 23, 2020, A small update on the case comes to light where one investigator (a former prosecutor) Robert Ives revealed that there were three odd signatures that were a part of the murder or done after the murder. Some speculate that this could be the "a lot of evidence" that was left at the scene. Robert Ives discussed this during a podcast  (HLN podcast Down The Hill: The Delphi Murders) and says the scene may have been staged but it was nothing like he had ever seen before and it was bizarre and shocking. Retired FBI profiler Mary Ellen O'Toole weighed in on this case as well in the same podcast and said the signatures is a satisfying behavior to the offender and staging is often done by somebody who knows the victims. Ives also said that at first dozens of search warrants and subpoenas were issued, seeking cell phone locations and phone identities but the law does not allow bulk collection of data like that without cause that a particular phone was involved.

The full video from Libby's phone has not been released. More than 20 people have been arrested on unrelated charges because of the investigation.  At least 25 different departments have offered to help.

2021 No updates. The ISP says there are two Carroll County detectives, two ISP detectives, and other law enforcement officers assigned to the case now. Sgt. Kim Riley ISP Lafayette bureau said that at this time two to four tips are being investigated daily.

Nationally, 6,000 electronic billboards in 46 states plead for information on their case. A total of over 48,000+ tips plus over 1,000+ people.  Tips were being inputted into an FBI system called "Pyramid" it sorts and stores tips and information so it can be cross-referenced with other tips and it even can be comparing tips to other cases.

It is unclear if the LE has tried parabon, phenotyping, or genetics in the case. It seems it would be unlikely they would tell us if they have due to them wanting to keep certain aspects of the case close to the vest. The cost is not of concern so most likely many things have been attempted.

The Girls

Abby was 13 years old and Libby was 14 years old. They were best friends with a deep connection. Both of the girls had many similarities but also were comfortable enough with themselves to just be who they were. Libby was outgoing and louder but Abby would hop onto ATVs and go on adventures! Their favorite colors were teal and purple (sometimes teal is reported as blue) and so you will see the entwining ribbons of these colors to represent them.

They enjoyed music and both were in the middle school band, painted, photography,  and they both were training to play softball.

Libby was multi-faceted and sociable with big dreams to match. Libby would journal her life and outlined every detail with timelines for college and where she'd go all the way to when she'd get married and how many children she wanted. Most of her dreams involved doing things that would help others like finding cures, solving crimes, police officer, or even a science teacher. Libby would have impacted whatever field because she was so intelligent. Proving this point was the fact she did well at school, took extra classes at Purdue University, and even repped for the academic bow in a high ability class during middle school.

Everyone describes how she was trying to help others even in small ways. Leaving delightful messages to her family on post-it-notes. Libby's mother has a tattoo sleeve dedicated to her daughter full of beautiful symbolism and it includes a message on a post-it-note from Libby. Daily she would post on her grandmother's Facebook page nice messages. Libby would also shower her family with baked goods. A girl who would tackle all sorts of hobbies like welding, volleyball, softball, soccer, alto-saxophone, and swimming. Each thing she would do she seemed to excel such as swimming a 500-meter race in eighth grade and making constant swim improvements.

Libby leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration. If you will allow me a personal note; Libby, I adore your post-it-notes so much I also will adopt them and leave my own family messages of love that way I also might one day leave behind a legacy as rich as the love we can all see you had for your family.

Kelsi German

Kelsi German, a survivor of the loss of her sister Libby. Kelsi was 17 years old at the time of the murders. At first, Kelsi was reluctant to talk about her family's unsolved case but eventually, she found her niche and comradery in advocacy for her sister during a Crimecon visit. Regularly she makes appearances for many media to interview about the case, she runs Twitter and Instagram for her sister as well where she keeps the story going and shares the suspect flyers. Kelsi keeps her sister alive by keeping her memory close to her.

Kelsi had wanted to study journalism and communications but re-routed her career into doing something to help people similar to herself and her family. Giving up her dream college so that she could pursue forensic psychology she pioneers the way some of the classes are presented to those that have experienced trauma in the field they are also pursuing. Kelsi often must side aside or tackle her own personal feelings and trauma in order to pursue her studies and advocacy. It's a hope she can work with an organization like "National Center For Missing And Exploited Children." Perhaps, she will follow her ideas to get a master's in social work. Whatever her choices she's already making big waves and helping people.

If you will allow a personal note; Kelsi you have inspired me to continue to help others around me. It doesn't matter how big or small the action is just as long as I am helping. Respect to you from one big sister to another. I recognize the immense love you have for your sibling. I'm praying for that day when people will stop asking you that loaded emotional question "how are you doing?". I'm praying you get your closure and then you get to help others get theirs.

Abigail Joyce Williams

Abby whose full name was Abigail Joyce Williams was born June 23, 2003, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to Anna M. Williams and an unknown father. Anna was only 19 years old when she had Abby and the two grew up together. Abby was an only child and lived with her mother and grandmother in Delphi. According to her obituary, Abby passed away on February 14th of 2017, however, her tombstone says 13th of February 2017. Abby held relationships with her extended family. Abby is described as 5'4 with a small build about 100lb, medium blond hair, and hazel eye and Caucasians (Other family members maternal grandparents-Diane & Eric Erskin of Delphi, Clif Williams of Grand Rapids, MI; maternal great grandparents-Jacqueline DeWeese of Rossville, Royal Erskin of Westaburg, MI; aunts & uncles; special cousins-Jayden & Aleah Erskin. Preceded in death by maternal grandparents; & Aunt Janie.)-Abby's Obituary

Abby was a gentle girl with dreams of wanting to help and care for people and animals. Abby wasn't as sure of what she wanted to do with life exactly but had all the potential and support to explore. Abby's friends said she also wanted to get into forensics and police work. Abby's family said she cared and loved all animals including the stray cat Bongo her mother was allergic to! Abby had a fun sense of humor and described her job as a "Taste Tester at Pizza Hut."

Every day was donned with a smile and light up the hearts of those around her with her acts of kindness. Abby did arts and crafts, knitted hats for newborns, made hats, and enjoyed sports like volleyball and softball. Abby liked to camp, swim, ride ATVs, fishing, and hike, or just be outside. An avid reader one of her prized possessions had been her kindle reader and large reading counts in her language arts class.

Please read this article which described Abby by her grandfather.

If you will allow me a personal note; Abby you have inspired me to enjoy my life more. Take pride in me and love my family. You leave behind a void of potential because we all know this world would be better with someone like you in it.

Suspects

"Bridge Guy" - The man that can be seen with his hat down and walking across the bridge. The footage of him saying "Guys down the hill." This man has been named a suspect. Very little info has been released about him except for a grainy still, audio which was released a second time with a slightly longer clip, and some footage of him walking also re-released with a longer clip. A white man between 5'6 and 5'10, weighing around 180lb-220 pounds, and with reddish-brown hair and unknown eye color.

"Younger Guy"- Named a suspect in April 2019 and released with an updated sketch that was drawn by Master Trooper Taylor Bryant. The man in the sketch is now described as between 18-40 years old and may look younger than he actually is. This new sketch caused a lot of confusion even among the LE and it's taken several separate statements to sort out that this sketch was meant to be an updated version of BG the original sketch. I have found conflicting statements about the sketch from LE in the news but more evidence and other statements point to this sketch is an updated version of BG. Kelsi German and family help confirm this in many broadcasts. LE has issued statements several times to help confirm this. The shortest explanation is that there were two different witnesses that had seen the same man in different ways.  Master Trooper Taylor Bryant said the sketch was drawn three days after the girls had been found. We have to remember a sketch is not a photograph.

Also, police asked for information about the driver of the vehicle parked at the offices in the town on the day the girls vanished. This area is also described as the old Child Services building that was abandoned and its location was off the Hoosier Heartland Highway in Delphi and it was left there around 5 pm.

Ron Logan (Ronald Logan, 77 at the time of the murders)  the private property owner was investigated but never named as a suspect. It seemed the tragedy affected him deeply.  “To have something like this in your own house, your own home - I just can’t get my mind around it yet, it’s really difficult,” said Logan. “I can’t comprehend it.”- Delphi, Indiana: A look at the property where the bodies of two missing teen girls were found WRTV article Logan was buying tropical fish at the time of the murders and was sentenced for two years for operating a vehicle after being a habitual traffic offender and a drunk driver. Apparently, he drove to the city dump on the day the girls vanished. Logan faced no charges at all in connection with the murders. Ronald Logan was arrested in March 2017 around the 16th on an unrelated charge but then was cleared of any involvement in the murder of the girls. Mr. Logan's property was searched extensively, including the house, garage, outbuilding, barns fields, and wooded areas. It was searched twice in response to rumors and also inconsistencies in Mr. Logan's story. They took items from the property to extensively looked into and even seized Mr. Logan's truck.

Paul Etter (deceased) was 55 years old and considered a possible suspect. However, it seems he was cleared. This is ambiguous though. Etter was from Tippecanoe County and had a 5-hour standoff with police who were trying to arrest him from the kidnapping and rape of a 26-year-old-woman. Police asked for autopsy results and DNA samples.

Thomas Bruce is a former paster and was charged with killing a woman with a gun and assaulting two others. Bruce's statue was similar to the wanted suspects, and he wore a flat cap and a navy blue jacket. December 4th, he was charged with 17 felony counts and might receive the death penalty. No word on if he was officially ruled out as a suspect.

Charles Eldridge arrested on January 8th, 2019 in Union City, Indiana with charges of child molestation and child solicitation. His appearance matched the Delphi suspect sketch before the updated composite had come out.

February 2017, a warrant obtained for the home in 110000 blocks of bicycle bridge road. The police were brought there via tips and they interviewed someone at the home but no evidence was found.

The Mears Barn was searched (This location has a lot of rumors) I do not know if it was officially cleared or ruled out.

July 28th, 2018 Estimated ISP (Indiana State Police) looked into a link between John Miller, 59, Fort Wayne, Indiana was taken into custody for the murder of April Tinsley. Have yet to find conclusive evidence if he was ruled out.

In the article Police set up a new number for Delphi murder tips - Rich Van Wyk on 13 WTHR published 02/16/17 (now removed/lost) Four people walked into the ISP and gave names of who they thought it could be. Interestingly, the ISP says they think have identified every person who was at the trails that day except for BG. The tips turned in a man named James Lucas who actually had been a part of the volunteer searchers. The police took his phone and searched it. The article makes it unclear if James Lucas had been cleared or if the phone had been returned.

https://www.wthr.com/article/police-continue-pursuing-leads-in-delphi-girls-murders

Daniel J. Nations, 31 was a person of interest in the case as a possible suspect. Daniel was arrested on September 27th by police in Colorado Springs because his car matched a description of a man that threatened several hikers with a hatchet. (Happened on a trail where a man was murdered two weeks ago.) In Nation's car, he had a gun which is sometimes reported as a rifle (Nations claims his wife purchased it for protection) and a hatchet and expired Indiana plates. According to his arrest affidavit, Nations had said "We're not that kind of people." when officers asked if he had threatened anyone with the hatchet in the car. Nations were with his wife when he was arrested. Nations were facing a felony charge for menacing and reckless endangerment charge for the hatchet incident and there was hope for even more charges. Nation's appearance is similar to the sketch of the Delphi killer. The Indiana State Police flew troopers with knowledge of the case to investigate.

Nation has no charges in connection with Delphi and has never been publicly ruled out, however, the ISP (Indiana State Police) has said they are not actively investigating him any longer. On Aug. 20th, 2018 Nations denies involvement in the case and said he had given his DNA to the ISP. "I feel like a victim in this situation," he says. "I just want people to know the truth, that I am not a monster."

Online many people are very convinced there is a connection and they had done a deep investigation into this person. Making connections and compiling personality and history. A former boss of Nation said “He was the kind of person who looked like he could change in a second,” said she. “Nice at one time then go off on you another. You never knew what to expect from him.” Nations were caught peeping and masturbating in a women's restroom while on the job. Then he vandalizes their property or causes late-night disturbances. Eventually, he quit his job and threatened the husband of the women's husband with a hatchet. Nations is also a registered sex offender who had to check in by a person with the county every so often. Nations did check in Morgan County but were also registered as a sex offender in Johnson County and he went missing from there. Nation was incarcerated from February 24th-28th of 2017 and that's only ten days after the murder of the girls. Placing him in the area. Then he basically, he had been on the run since July when he skipped his court appearance in Greenwood, only two days after the police released a sketch of the Delphi killer.

"TIMELINE: Could Daniel Nations be connected to the Delphi murders?"  (This article has a timeline of his life events. I don't feel the need to document this here as I feel we've spent enough time looking into this guy and the police are not investigating him any longer. )

Sgt. Riley had said " Nations is just one of dozens of “suspects” they have checked out as part of their investigation into the girls’ murders."

January 2019, Police investigate Charles Andrew Eldridge who was arrested in a sting operation miles away from Delphi but had a similar look to the sketches.

Thousands have been rigorously investigated as potential suspects based on tips with interviews, searches, and even polygraph tests for some.

Carroll County Sheriff Toby Leazenby personally thinks that the LE probably has already been interviewed already but was not immediately recognized as the offender. Leazenby also believes when it happens the community will be shocked at the identity because it is a well-known member. Leazenby goes on to say that mistakes may have been made due to rushing and that revisiting old leads might be helpful. Please keep in mind these statements are all his personal opinion and not official LE statements. The worst hindrances are the side-by-sides of random people to the sketches, random accusations, and sleuthing innocent people Lastly, because they are vetting all the tips, false tips and multiple tips on the same thing slows the investigation even more.

People Profiles

This section is a very brief and not entirely complete outline of the people involved in this case. The intent is to gather basic info on people with information about them that doesn't fit in other categories. There are other full lists of all the people involved via

Derrick German (Libby's Father) A gentle and patient man who does not like the public limelight. Fears judgment against his daughter because of his own past. Afraid people will scrutinize his words like they have done to his family.

Becky Patty (Libby's Grandmother) A hardworking, caring grandmother who puts others' needs above her own. A survivor of cancer she refused to let that news overshadow her grandaughter's case. Sometimes described as someone who over-reacts.

Kelsi German - (Libby's Older Sister) Seemed to have been caught between the roles of being motherly and big sister to Libby and Abby. Straight forward with her words and emotions.

Diane and Eric Erskin - (Abby's Grandparents) Very emotionally thoughtful and intune. Left thoughtful and powerful letters to the police and about their granddaughter. https://cbs4indy.com/news/grandparents-of-murdered-delphi-teen-leave-sweet-note-at-police-headquarters/

DOWNSTAIRS INFO

Everything from this point on is downstairs info. That means it's speculations, theories, rumors, thoughts, and loose notes. Information without verified or reputable sources as well. There are some disturbing themes and content. After this will be the public good highlights followed by the conclusion in case you want or need to skip to that.

Theories And Notes About Suspects

Public accusations about who could be the murderer were and are rampant for this case. The moment news broke about it being a homicide the accusations and begin. The spread of false information happens online and in-person along with homemade criminal sketches of the suspect. The LE has to make several statements about stopping the behaviors since it hindered the case. They try to tell the public that even though they speak with someone, search them or get statements from them, it doesn't make that person a part of the case, suspect, or a POI.

This case is not a cold case and since the accusations are out of control; There will be no posting any compiled info on people involved with rumors or theories UNLESS the person named is already a criminal, has been talked about by the LE, or I can keep the description vague enough to protect their privacy.

The prevailing idea is that the killer had a sexual motive or history and so many began to research the SO lists. On the website forum "Websluthes" there were references to those who had looked up Delphi's SO lists. However, since time has passed those original links and lists are out of date. Around the time of the murders, it seemed like there were about 40-50 SO's with only one non-compliant. Ten of the SO's supposedly worked around the meat processing plant.

There was a rumor that an arrest in Randolf County for sexual crimes against children could be the Delphi killer and his mug shot was shared online when an Indiana radio station compared the pictures. This rumor was debunked. https://randolphcounty.us/news/social-media-rumors-can-carry-consequences

The public turned in tips on its own police officers. The claims for the tips were based on things like a certain officer having a low voice, or the same body builds as the suspect. Some suggested the police were corrupt and were hiding a killer in one of their own.

The public assumed the police know who the killer is because they were told to return to living life like normal and at the start told them they were smart enough to make their own conclusions. There are ideas that the police need more evidence or perhaps they are needing an alibi to fold. The April conference gives the public more hope that the LE knows who it is because they seem to try and brace the community for a bombshell. People read between the lines and assume it's someone they might know.  Personally, I think this is wrong because Sgt. Carter in a press conference says the one piece of the puzzle is the killer's identity.

The second sketch that was released in April had a lot of speculation about it as well including the fact it was actually one of the first drawn sketches but released later.

There was a rumor that the face in the first sketch had been ruled out and this rumor was backed up by a quote from the website  actus-reus.com/delphi-evidence says "The podcast Best Case, Worst Case claims to have heard from their sources that the man in the July 17 sketch was arrested and cleared hence the change of suspects. "Best Case Worst Case podcast Episode 122 Timestamp 33:09"

The locals do not think it is someone that lives in Delphi but somebody that lived or worked in the close surrounding area. The idea is that the town is so small and now that the sketches have circulated somebody would have recognized him. The trails were popular for outsiders to visit for photographs. Also, being from small towns I know that if you meet someone on the hiking trails you would acknowledge each other in greeting. If it was someone you knew you'd exchange a few extra pleasantries. It seems like a large risk to take for a killer that lived in Delphi and would be recognized.

The meatpacking plant is scrutinized as being the possible source for the killer to have worked at.

There was a theory that the crime was committed by other children or older children.

The public accused several of the family members but the police investigated thoroughly. LE does not reveal a hard public rule-out list but releases a general soft statement indicating they ruled out the family.

There is also the secondary theory that the family had made enemies or were part of gangs.

There was a rumor that the police searched for a white van in the area and spoke to a man who they ruled out. I cannot find anything to back this claim.

A passing thought of my own that I would like to throw in here is that perhaps one of the local farmers had a hired hand that frequented the properties. Maybe one that worked there in the past or present. It would give them knowledge of the area, the ability to blend with locals, or perhaps even an alibi. Being out in fields near the trails would be overlooked. Sometimes, these hired hands are family as well so that might give people a motive to give them alibis. Sometimes, they are foreign without a license to be in the USA so that also can incite the possible alibi. Lastly, if they had a sordid past and the person that hired them knew but benefited in a way such as drugs... that would also give them a motive for an alibi. Also, in my own personal experience of having lived in the country... there was a time an escaped convict hid for three days in my neighbor's barn but the property was so big she had never noticed until the police searched the property.

A similar idea to my thought was that perhaps the suspect is a trucker and easily able to leave towns quickly. The highway is nearby the trails and there is a historical barn, and bridge advertised publicly in the area.

There's a strange theory that the killer could be a boater and maybe he had a boat on the creek.

Several of us armchair detectives suggested the LE  look for suicides, murders, strange injury reports, and deletion of major social media accounts around the original date, anniversaries, or press conferences.

Many wonders if it was only one killer. The possibility is there but many of the family, LE, and more all think it's the work of one killer. Carroll County Sheriff Tobe Leazenby does state that it has not been determined if there were one or more perpetrators.

Lastly, it is the hope that perhaps LE could do genealogy testing on the DNA to find the suspect. Similar to how the golden gate killer case was finally solved.

Why Were The Girls Allowed To Be Alone In The Woods?

The girls were young teenagers, not infants. The area that they were at was a place they had been to on a number of occasions. During this time children were often let outdoors on their own to play and that's what Abby and Libby were doing. In fact, there were other kids on the trails that very day. The spot was well known and advertised as safe for everyone and this town had not experienced violence like this. The town took pride in the development of the trails and restoration of the historical systems and it had been a local hangout spot for a long time. When you really read the family's story it is obvious they were more cautious than the average household. The fact of the matter is that your heart reacting in fear might try and convince you that you must put the blame on something preventable but in reality, this could have happened to any of us.

Were the girls meeting someone? / Other social media notes and theories

The theory that the girls were meeting someone that day has persisted since day one. It was partially fueled by LE being a bit vague and the public desperately looking for answers. Everyone hangs off every statement and word by the LE and people are often looking for deeper meanings in their statements.

Officially, the LE has never publicly confirmed nor denied if the girls were meeting someone that day, or if they were being catfished, or any other similar theory.

One thing is for sure though, the girl's family is absolute in their idea that the girls were NOT meeting anyone that day. Abby did not have a phone and she was not allowed to have one. Abby would use Libby's extra electronics such as her iPad.

Neither girl was dressed to impress that day and they were doing activities that were very common and typical for them. There's also the evidence that the girls had reportedly been startled enough by BG that they started to document him before their encounter. Some locals back up this idea by saying that meeting a stranger at the bridge would be hard. Most non-locals would get lost trying to get to the bridge.

Some other theories that fall under this category are that perhaps the girls were catfished and the teens had expected to meet a peer that day. Perhaps innocently just meeting a friend or teen boy.

Some wonder if social media doesn't play a bigger role in this meeting such as snap chat maps feature being on so the girls were stalked, perhaps they saw a peer in the area and went out there based on that, or saw a party happening on Snapchat and went. People wonder if the girls posted on social media their plans to go to the bridge that day and if someone followed them that was either a familiar or stranger. The app called "Yellow" was brought up because it was a popular app of the time that was similar to tinder but marketed at kids and connected you to people via Snapchat. The other app that was mentioned as a culprit of secrecy is "Whisper"

Then there was the geocaching rumor/theory. The idea was somehow the killer knew to look for the girls with the app, was tracking or some other variant of the theory. Kelsi confirms that yes she and her sister did geocache but not one that day and had already found the cache a while ago and only she had the app, not her sister.

I read from an unverified source that Computer Crimes Against Children unit had to do a recovery on the phone but it is unclear what they were doing and if this is a true piece of information. I do have ONE news article previously mentioned in my write-up where the police do a phone search on a person that was turned in via tips. It is also unverified so far but commonly known that the FBI did look into the girl's social media.

It is unclear if LE or FBI contacted Facebook and Snapchat to see if anyone in the area suddenly deactivated their social media around this date. It is also unclear if LE checked to see if there were any highlights on the Snapchat map for that day in the area.

According to her sister Kelsi; Libby was not dating anyone around the time of the murders and she wasn't all that interested in dating. If she did it was generally lighthearted and fun.

People wanted to know if Abby and Libby had been planning to go to the bridge for a while or if this was a spur-of-the-moment choice.

Some people want to know if the cemetery close by was a hangout teen spot.

Cellphone Theories and Notes

The cell phone, towers, and pinging have all been highly speculated. Many people believe there are longer recordings on the phone which leaves room for speculation on what could be on it. Some say the entire murder had been captured via video or sound recording. Others in contrast believe the phone had to be recovered and revived with perhaps analytics recovering broken or deleted files either from the phone or a cloud system. There was a weird theory that the girls had a burner phone but that's just unlikely.  There is a rumor that Libby's phone had been reset by Libby's request the week prior due to glitches. This gives people the idea that the police may have altered the footage with edits, removing frames, or stabilizing the video. Perhaps even changing audio pitch to hide weapon sounds, or screams, or other vital information.

The cellphone tower pings were intensely focused on by the public and wild theories abound. Kelsi German takes to youtube to try and dispel the common myths associated with cellphone towers. . In a nutshell the cellphone towers worked as they are supposed to. There are about 2-3 of them in Delphi and when you are at a certain distance you can ping off any of those towers. It does not mean your phone is being moved to different locations it just means the towers pinged them and it could be in any order by whichever tower grabs the signal essentially the towers are just close to one another.

There was the theory that the phone had been thrown into the water and recovered later.

Why weren't the phones taken or destroyed? Something we don't know exactly is the condition of the phones. Was there an attempt to destroy or were they left behind without care? Did Libby or Abby hide or drop the phone on purpose to keep the evidence she had intact? Did they attempt to call for help? Knowing these types of information could help determine how long the girls were alive after their encounter with BG and it could help determine the type of killer BG is either organized or disorganized. We do know that the phone was ringing in the evening after the girl's disappearance before either being turned off or the battery died.

Lie Detector Tests Theories

More rumors about the possible lie detector tests used during investigations. People started a rumor that someone had refused to take the tests. That is false and confirmed false by Kelsi German and LE has refused to comment on if lie detectors were used at all.

Family Thinks Case Rumors

Rumors started that the families are not impressed or supportive of the investigation. Every family member has their own opinions of different varieties on this case, so this theory is debunked. Carrie Timmons speaks publicly about her negative feelings on the case while Kelsi Germans speak publicly about her positive feelings on the case and so on and so forth with each and every family member. There is no wrong way to feel. They've been through a lot and have the right to feel the way they do individually. That being said here are some of the criticism the family has brought up publicly.

The search was called off too early. Even some LE agrees that it's possible the search was called off too early that the first day. Also, I think Kelsi German even alludes to agreeing on this as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVmMn9T-Qls

Carrie Timmons believes the large volume of volunteers hindered the investigations and tainted the crime scene.

Photograph Theories and Notes

The photograph of Abby on the bridge was one of the first items released in the case and it also was not without speculations. People swore they could see the killer hiding in the original Snapchat photo of just Abby on the bridge. Others pointed out that it would be too tall or steep in that area. Some swore he was standing on the edge of the bridge but that was disproved as the barricades that now sit to the side of the trail.

There have been a lot of photo edits of BG. However, none of these have been helpful to the case and only spurns more rumors. Kelsi German explains the original image is the best image to use.

Allegedly, you could see the vehicle the police were hopeful for information on with the drone or helicopter footage from around the date of the murders and of course, people swore they could see the crime scene too.

Online psychics take to trying to read the crime scene photographs and leave sensationalized posts.

Vehicle Theories And Notes

Since the LE did not release information about the vehicle that they were looking for that had been parked at the CPS building people made assumptions. There were rumors this vehicle was abandoned. That is was a car. THat it was a truck. That it was a white van. That could be seen in the helicopter/drove footage at the start of the news investigations or search parties. None of these rumors of verified.

Theories About Motivations

What could have motivated a double homicide that day? LE has released no information about this subject and many people have tried to look into the deeper meaning of their statements and comments to look for hints about this.

I will list out some of the theories that I have come across. The first and the most common being that this was a random crime of opportunity. Meaning it was a purely spontaneous event with no planning and the killer was just lucky. Another version of this is that the person intended to kill that day and the girls fit his target and then he was lucky or perhaps he intended to kill and set up a trap and everything was well planned. Lastly, a slightly different version of this is that killing them was not in the plan but perhaps something else was and murder was the result of him being frustrated due to time or other reasons.

Some speculate that perhaps this was a sexually motivated crime. We do not know if the girls were assaulted or not. There are some vague hints that perhaps the girls were in a state of undress when found. If it was sexual motivation some wonder if he lured the girls there via social media, stalked them online, and followed them, or if they just happen to be in the wrong place being a crime of opportunity. Others speculate that the killer could have motivated by Valentine Day's.

In almost every bizarre murder case someone brings up satanic or magical motivation for killing.

Perhaps the girls saw something in the woods that day they weren't supposed to see.

Perhaps the killer was motivated by an event in their life that caused them to want to harm females or young girls, or young people in general.

Revenge against the girls, women in general, or perhaps a family member of one of the girls.

Perhaps, this is the work of a serial killer. Whose motivations could fall into one of four general categories? Visionary, Mission, Hedonistic, and power or control. Visionaries are often killers with breaks from reality or psychotic episodes. Mission killers often think they are doing something good like ridding the world of something, changing the world, or something like that. Hedonistic get pleasure from their kills. Lust/sex is the primary motive for these types, they might also enjoy the thrill, (think of a celebrity that doesn't need to steal but does it anyway) There's comfort/profit motive like material gains or lifestyle gains. There's power/control which is an aspect of several of these motivations but it can be one of its own too. Lastly, there's media influence where killers say violent culture influenced them to commit murders. Also, fame might motivate them. More in-depth writings can be found here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_killer#:~:text=The%20motives%20of%20serial%20killers%20are%20generally%20placed%20into%20four,considerable%20overlap%20among%20these%20categories.

The FBI has its own classification of serial killers with only three categories, Organized, Disorganzied and Mixed.

I've listed these theories at the bottom because of their unlikely nature, however, to be through I will list them. There was the idea the girls were romanticly involved and they themselves had a hand in their own deaths. Murder/suicide pacts, accidental death with a subsequent suicide, and so forth. Some wonder if this wasn't the work of peers, an accident, or a party went wrong.

Theories & Rumors About COD / TOD

The official cause of death has never been officially released. The theories run rampant though from strangulation to stabbing, to groutewire. Choked to death is a common running death theory as ABC news reported this in one video but accompanying the article itself contradicts this news anchor. Nobody knows if the reporter accidentally saw more info than they should have or if it was bad reporting. Time of death has never been released either. We do know that the time between the girls not showing up at their pick-up time, the last snap chat, and when the first family member started looking is very short but we don't know when the girl's official TOD was.

who assumed because the autopsies had taken so long it was because of something unusual and because they waited until the autopsies were completed to release the identities that the girls were beyond recognition. Neither of these thoughts is addressed by LE.

I could find no factual news sources but many people said the viewings were open casket. There was a rumor that the girls were wearing scarves which were debunked but it also kept fueling the rumors that the girls had their throats slit.  There was also the rumor the girls had been beaten in the face badly.

The wording that the autopsy identified the girls some ppl worried the worst that the girls had been disfigured.

It has been rumored that Libby's body was worse off than Abby's and many assumed it was because Libby was the target or had to fight back.

There were weird rumors about Abby having a spear in her stomach, or that she survived the night and died the next day either from exposure or on the way to the hospital. Some say she died but tried to crawl away or that they had been found in strange positions. There are a lot of rumors about their death days and people seem convinced that Abby died on a different day and because of this it seemed to have spurred an onslaught of rumors about this subject.

One of the reasons the police give for calling off the search was the darkness and plummeting temperatures. Many people say that probably means the killer was done as well. So, either the murder was short or placed after having more time elsewhere.

October 8th, 2020 Zav Girl on Youtube releases a video titled "Text Messages from the guy that found Abby and Libby? What do you all think? The video has amassed 106,708 views along with 2.9k likes and only 197 thumbs down. In the video, she outlines that she had found leaked text messages from the girl's body finder and these messages had been out for over a year. In another source, I have found the messages had been circulating online from about September 2020. David Erskin is the texter and the alleged finder. In short summary, it seems he corrects a rumor of the crime scene photos being leaked online, and basically, he says they were not sexually assaulted, and outlines their cause of death/injuries. David claims the girls died from stabbing with attention on Libby. The validity of all these claims is unknown and there are some big contradictions in the texts.

Location Theories

There are some thoughts that perhaps the girls were killed elsewhere and then brought to the location that they were found in. There are many versions of this theory to numerous to mention.  These theories would create a high-risk factor for the killer with the only payouts for him being time to commit murder elsewhere and hiding a second crime scene with more evidence.  People assume one of these moved to location theories by the logic that nobody saw or heard the murder occur.

"They were Killed Inn A Barn" rumor. Supposedly, in the early start of the investigation, the family released a statement saying the girls had been killed in a barn. (I have been unable to locate anything reliable to back this claim) Ron Logan's property was searched twice and this included the barns. (Please, remember Mr. Logan had been cleared and ruled out by LE.) There were a few other properties and outbuildings that had also been searched. The Mears barn has also been subjecting to speculation and it also had been searched.

Another theory that sort of goes along with the barn theory is that perhaps the local property owners though innocent could have had the killer hiding in one of their outbuildings. Perhaps a hired hand, visiting a family member, or something of the like.

There is another theory that perhaps one girl was killed there in the clearing and the other abducted and then brought back.

However, the terrain where the girls were found is filled with steep hills and embankments, deep grass, and so forth. The property owner himself has made several statements about how carrying two people would be nearly impossible on foot and anyone who got to that particular location probably had to walk. To counteract this logic some suggest deer trails were used to carry the girls to the spot or perhaps atv was used.

There are rumors that the crime scene was supposedly void of anything interesting. This is directly contrary to descriptions of the crime scene by several LE.

People wondered if the killer was moving bodies and had to stop because of all the quick searches.

Perhaps the killer wanted the girl's bodies to be found quickly and that is why they were left so close to their abduction spot as well as the fact they weren't placed in the river.

There is a rumor that the evening the girls went missing someone told family/searchers to not look through the private property at night.

There was a theory that perhaps the suspect used the abandoned CPS building as his hub to wait out searches, watch, or even maybe kill there. The CPS building was burnt down but unable to confirm if it was burnt on purpose because it was abandoned or not.

Was the crime scene contaminated? may people worry about this with rumors flying high about a large amount of DNA contamination at the scene?

Is this spot a place the girls would have gone to on their own previously? A picnic or hangout area?

BG (Bridge Guy) Theories/Thoughts

Bridge Guy is also known as BG. I won't be writing very much on him, let's not inflate his ego. The police have shifted from this guy being a POI to the number one suspect. His voice and sketch can be found easily and I highly suggest sharing those. To the killer: I think you are a weak and pathetic man who stalked, ambushed, and murdered two of our most innocent victims. – Sheryl ‘Mac’ McCollum -A Sister’s Walk for Justice: The Delphi Murders [EXCLUSIVE]

Unofficially, his clothing has been analyzed in-depth online. The overall appearance has a "everyman" look or general midwest. The heavy layering for the slightly warmer weather is interesting but nothing worthwhile besides a note. Perhaps he intended to get up early or late and layered or just ran cold. Some people say the clothes look bulky or oddly shaped. Perhaps the man is plus-size, wearing overly baggy clothes, or has things stuffed inside the clothes, it's possible he could have been manufacturing an older man look. BG might have facial hair in the video but keep in mind that can be changed in four years, so can hair.

Hat - described as everything from floppy hair to bandanas, scarfs, hoodies, baseball caps, baseball caps turned backward,  hunters hats, camo, hats with flaps, and newsboy caps. Whatever it is the color is brownish possibly tan or a shade of gray.

Coat- described as everything from, Carhart with a hoodie underneath, golf coat with layers, the color is a dark blueish, possibly grey with some layers underneath.

Pants- described as blueish denim jeans. Some say they can see paints, stains, or a hole.

Bag- around his waist there is a brownish object. Often described as a fanny pack or an untucked bit of shirt, or hoodie pocket sticking out.

Shoes- dark in color many assume it boots but it could be higher topped sneakers. Possibly with a stripe.

Voice- the public says by gut feeling his voice sounds like someone used to be in authority over children. It has low and soft quality with a basic accent possibly from the area.

Gait- Described as everything in between athletic or possibly disabled.

The "Creepy Guy" or "He's Behind Me"? Comment Rumor

There has been some debate on if the girls had described the man as creepy at some point during the audio that we the public may not have heard. According to a source the girls do mention a man but we are not privy to how exactly she mentions him. "creepy guy" does not seem to hold water.

This is the article in which talks about them referencing the man. https://www.wthr.com/article/news/local/police-delphi-murder-victims-spoke-of-man-behind-them-in-audio-played-for-family/531-4391eb86-9939-41c4-a921-501e7af81ca6

"Police say the girls mostly talk about "stuff girls talk about" in the recording, but they also mention the man. The only audio that has been released to the public from the phone is that of a man's voice ordering German and her friend, Abby Williams, "down the hill."

Also on www.abbyandlibby.org under case details: "The photo and voice recording were taken from German’s cell phone. Authorities have indicated that more evidence relating to the suspect was found on the phone, but it will not be released so as not to “compromise any future trial” So once again alluding to more content but not outlining exactly what that is.

Paranormal Investegators

Paranormal Investigators RockyFourman went out on Feb. 15th, 2017 to do a remote spirit box reading. The stunt was not well received by the public. It was posted to Abby and Libby's Reddit with repulsed reactions. Many think this group preyed upon a heartbroken family and sickenly pretended to talk to the girls. There are also accusations via spirit box naming a random suspect. That name was given to the police.  There is an interesting interview in there with Libby's not often seen mother Carrie Timmons. Carrie wants more information on this case as she's received little. Thinks more information should be out there in general and does not think the girls knew the man. Also, she said some of the nearby property owners did not speak to the police but lawyered up after the murders. This could be because of the rumors and speculations going on by the general public and may not seem as malicious as it sounds. Many people were accusing innocent people of the crime. While this investigation upset some others were grateful that they were trying to keep the story relevant and in the news.

Spirit box accusation is  Wilcox "Truck" possibly a truck driver. The public comes up with other connections such as a business called "Wilcox Trucking and Towing" In Salem, Indiana which is close to Delphi. Another business found with a similar name that lived in Delphi. A possible trucking company in KY where Libby's mother previously lived was 2 hours away from the trucking company. There was some confusion with these accusations from the spirit box though as apparently a person named Tim Wilcox a private investigator had worked on the case and the spirit box had sad the names "Steve" and "Wilcox" separately so people put them together and assumed it was "Steve Wilcox" thus bringing in the confusion and misconceptions about the private investigator Steve Wilcox. There is a provided link to a news story that mentions a Tim Wilcox private investigator.

https://www.wrtv.com/news/crime/updates-expected-today-on-delphi-teen-killings

Aside from these paranormal investigators, there are others that have participated. Especially, on youtube and Facebook. On Facebook several instances where psychics have attempted readings from crime scene location photos.

At least five psychics try and contact LE to offer their help.

There are some interesting coincidences that fit nowhere else so I am listing them here. One was the police conference where they name-drop the movie called "The Shack" where it involves a murderer who was religious and killed. The other is an anon mention in a daily email article where they point out that the situation is similar to Stephen King's "Stand by me" and "the body" where children find a body by the train tracks.

Dishonorable Mentions

ONLY mentioning these places/people here as deplorable, disturbing, and creepy. Stay away from them. Only mentioning and not even linking to try and protect people from this crap.

Robert Lindsy's blog.

Dexter AKA Clarisedewinter  and all variants of their name. Usually blocks family members and rants about their suspects. So, terrible that Kelsi is often kept up to date via police about the new identities this person takes on.

Public Support And Good

I wanted to include this segment to highlight the kindness and good of the community and projects people have done to honor the girls. This is not an all-inclusive list so I am so sorry if I missed anyone. If you want to be added let me know and when I update I will do so. It's important to know how special these girls were and how many people cared. Despite the struggles of public accusation, a small town shook they all held fast and tried to support even four years later the public has been keeping in the girls in their hearts.

There are so many statements from the community, friends, and family describing how wonderful the girls were in personality and ability. So, many it's impossible to list each one here!

Michael Dilligaf created a youtube video tribute titled "I will not say goodbye"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urgjKJAgbhE&feature=emb_logo

The locals would drop food off for the police and detectives working all hours on the case and for the family as well for the coming weeks and I feel like this is what inspired the food drives.

The community puts up teal and blue ribbons, plaster windows with sketches, and adorns important places with flowers.

United Methodist Church, provided a lot of community support from day one and beyond. Prayer vigils, statements, and providing a safe haven. The prayer vigil held the same day the girls were found was attended by over 700 people. This is the place that holds the food drives as well.

A group of local residents organized a community outing in the early days to hike the trails together in solidarity to banish the fear of the trails.  "The reality is that evil happened here, and so we want to reclaim this ground," Rev. Todd Ladd, pastor of Delphi United Methodist Church, says. - Taking Back the Trail article in Pharos-Tribune. The girls inspire renovation projects for the trails as well as the desire to add more security.

Small fundraiser by many including, The Pizza King, Gear family, Guardians of the Children, Latino community, food drives, Stone house, Abby's Angel's shoebox, and hometown shirts and graphix.

The community hosts a lot of sporting events from the early days until now such as; "Abby&Libby Celebration Of Life" at the Delphi Highschool to raise money for the softball complex planned in their memory, "Ride for The Kids",

In August 2017 Plan to construct a $1 million sports complex called the Abby & Libby Memorial Park is announced. It's received grants and attention but the project could still use more help and spread of information. Currently, it's about 20-acres and just northeast of Delphi and 25 miles from Purdue's campus. Basically, this project has been what family, friends, and residents of Delphi have poured their love into while they wait for closure on this case. Diane Eirskin was the one who kept unearthing heart shaped stones as the land was being cleared out. Almost like the girls had given their blessing on the project. Things like Purdue donating their intramural lights, or public donations are helping the project get bigger. The project keeps growing as the years go longer with hopes to put in a park with three ball diamonds, trails, an amphitheater, playgrounds, buildings, picnic shelters, parking lots, and more. To read more on its construction and history please read these great articles. https://www.jconline.com/story/news/2019/11/18/delphi-murders-purdue-intramural-lights-donated-park-memorializing-abby-and-libby/4226021002/

Many wonderful events happen there in the girl's honor such as the Libby & Abby Softball Tournament, or the now annual memorial ride, and the annual golf outing. They also had the CreatINg Spaces matching funds campaign, a golf scramble, car show, auctions, converts, and Food Drives.

There was also a 2,100 scholarship that will go to a student in Delphi Community High School's class of 2021. In an article of Journal & Courier Erskin, Abby Williams' grandfather, said “It was very emotional,” he said. “I mentioned to him, ‘You know, that’s Abby’s and Libby’s class." and lastly the NBA All-Star Game will be played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Feb. 14th, 2021 the anniversary of the girl's death.

"L&A Park Foundation, a nonprofit organization started by Abby and Libby’s families in 2017 and overseen by the Community Foundation of Carroll County, was one of 21 groups in 19 Indiana counties sharing $1 million in grants from the NBA All-Star Game hosts. The money was intended for brick-and-mortar projects focused on health and wellness or education." -Journal & Courier NBA’s $50K grant for Abby & Libby park resonates on several levels in Delphi

Delphi residents install orange lights on their porch to honor the girls and call for the capture of the murderer. The movement was started by Libby's mother and carried on with Paulette Ferguson who got as many orange lights for Delphi as she could. E-mailing companies until a semi-truck full of orange lights were delivered with the exchange each light was given for free.  "I pray for the day we can turn off our orange light bulbs," the woman who took the cause to heart and secured 2500 of the bulbs for locals, Paulette Ferguson, says. https://www.wrtv.com/news/local-news/carroll-county/7-months-after-delphi-murders-orange-lights-still-burn-bright-in-search-for-libby-abbys-killer

Libby's sister Kelsi is an amazing young woman who has gone above and beyond to make sure her sister is with her daily. Kelsi has carried Libby's backpack to school, worn her goggles during swims, and dedicating her swims to her sister. Many many acts of love from this big sister to numerous to list here. Keli often goes out of her way to debunk rumors and defend her family. Taking on the role of an advocate in the public for her sister. in 2018 she was avocating online and doing as many as six interviews a day. Kelsi's career choice comes with a great mental cost and I urge you to read this article about her and how the field she is pursuing needs to improve for students who have experienced trauma. https://www.purdueexponent.org/features/article_b5000e78-a75d-11ea-949d-1f66c92deca6.html

February 2021, Delphi still hasn't forgotten their daughters and they don't plan to do so. Friends decorate a senior parking spot in the girl's memory, pictures of Libby are still up at the pool in the school, friends of the girls still keeping in touch with the family. On the anniversary in 2021, the community did a second annual Abby And Libby Memorial Walk organized by Randy Gravitt. https://www.wlfi.com/content/news/Delphi-remembers-Abby-and-Libby-with-memorial-walk-573794551.html and of course the family did their annual food drive. https://cbs4indy.com/video/families-hold-food-drive-on-anniversary-of-delphi-murders/6283423/ There was no press conference this year as there was no news information but the Delphi United Methodist Church did their food and pet food drive as well as opening a place to stop and share in a moment of reflections.

Investigation Discovery's Show "In Pursuit wth John Walsh" Aired April 1st 2020

John Douglas makes appearances publicy to help some thoughts around May 2019 and perhaps other occasions. Inside Edition airs an interview with him May 15th 2019.

Conclusion

“If he is found I’ll sleep a bit better knowing that he can’t hurt anyone else, but it doesn’t bring my kid back, He can rot in jail or they can give him the death penalty and put a needle in his arm… It will just be a piece of the puzzle put into place. But Abby will still be the piece that’s missing.” -Anna Williams (From Press Quote)

How can you help this case? Sgt. Carter mentions in the Down The Hill Podcast that there are so many reasons that cause this case to be different, however, I suggest to you what if we started to look at what makes it the same as other cases. "Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth." -Sherlock Holmes

So, it may seem mundane of me to implore you not to come up with theories but rather make sure that you do your part by simply spreading the flyers and the story as far as you can. Share the media on your personal pages, re-tweet, and use #s. Keep the pressure up to find the one person that might recognize the murderer of two girls.

LOCALS ONLY can try and remember any details about the day the girls were missing and even into the following weeks. Sit down with a journal and write a bullet point of your day. Jot down any details you might remember. I suggest you watch old newscast stories to help jog your memory and read old local articles. Note anything in your journal that stands out in your memory. Cars there were not where they should be, people that stood out, creepy encounters on those trails in the past, or anything else. If you end up with something good please make a tip to the police. Non-locals and web sleuths you can research the area history and past crimes. Do not name anyone publicly! If you find some really weird connection that stands out signification turn it into the police. You could also send the police any photos you might have taken on or around February 13th, 2017 be prepared to be asked questions by them if you can do this though.

Remember only a good tip. That way you don't slow the investigations down. You can also research similar crimes in general and make crime charts to post. Double murders, girls of similar ages and looks, hiker and woodland murders, and any other matching details. Hastily done murders with a tight timeline like this one. Don't doxx or do side-by-sides at all.

Mostly, this case hinges on the ONE person who will recognize the bridge guy. SPREAD THOSE FLYERS!
